A three-part diary on the heritage of Jewish culture and cultural politics in Germany.
2014: An inactive Jewish cemetery in my German ancestors’ village, kept and narrated by my grandmother’s cousin Kurt Strauss, who survived the Holocaust by hiding his Jewish heritage and joining the German-army at the end of WW2;
2015: the vibrant Cologne synagogue and the new generation of Germany’s Jews prepare for the spectacular Jewrovision song and dance competition, where Germany’s communities compete with choreographies and re-interpretations of pop songs. Their performance is marked by a chilling German version of the Israeli anthem;
2016: Lebanese artist Walid Raad's opening in Stommeln, at a former synagogue-turned-art-space amid claims for the emancipatory German-Jewish heritage and the legacy of the Holocaust.
